Genocide in Darfur PDF Print E-mail

You can do something about the genocide in Darfur, Sudan. Right Now!

Both the president and the past and present Secretary of State have named the situation in Darfur as genocide. In the 1990, the world stood by while 800,000 people were murdered in Rwanda in 100 days. And we said we would never do that again. Write to your senators and representative (find out who they are and their contact information at  http://www.visi.com/juan/congress) and ask them to support the Darfur Peace and Accountability Act, which calls for sanctions against the Sudanese government that is supporting the rape and murder of hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians. It also calls for tactical support for the Africa Union soldiers who are trying to protect the civilians in refugee camps. There is momentum on this act in congress now, at the beginning of November. The members of Congress know the situation in Darfur, and so you don’t have to explain it to them. After the Rwandan massacres, Senator Paul Simon said that if every member of Congress had received 100 letters of protest, we would have intervened to stop the killing. Do your part. Tell them—not again. We cannot stand by and watch genocide happening and do nothing. A simple letter will do. For more information on Darfur, go to www.savedarfur.org
